It looks like the Vue 3 uses screw down terminal instead of the 3.5mm jacks. Is it possible to use the v2 CTs with the new v3 device?

Hi OP,
Hardware: The hardware is different between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Emporia Vue Energy Monitors, inclusive of the CTs not being interchangeable.
Emporia App: Gen 2 and Gen 3 Emporia Vue Energy Monitors can be nested under each other in the app no problem — it’s all software in that regard.

It’s unfortunate that @emporiacs didn’t state why they are not compatible… clearly the plugs don’t exist on the new clamps so I’d be sorely tempted to cut the plugs off the old ones, strip the wires, and give it a go using the screw terminals. Or get a female socket to leads adapter and try… because, let’s face it, if I decide to get a new Vue and it’s version 3, I don’t really want to have to reconnect all the clamps to the panel. It was convenient that when I discovered my VUE 2 was broken, that I didn’t have to change all the clamps I had already installed.
Screw terminals make more sense than the plugs because they are more secure and agnostic about the clamp type.

I agree, I suspect the CTS would work if we would cut the wires and connected them to the Vue 3, but it would be nice to have a definite answer from Emporia, and if it would work with drawbacks, what these would be….

To add a bit more detail here – the sensors do have slightly different construction w/ the Vue 3 CT’s having updated UL certifications. Vue 2 sensors can certainly work, there’s no difference in how they measure power between the different models. The main thing is that you’d need to cut off the audio jacks and wire them into the appropriately sized terminal blocks (and ensuring your positive/negative are lined up as well) . So if you’re comfortable w/ the wiring, have extra terminal blocks available and certification is not an issue – then you’d be good to go (but those are the three primary reasons we generally don’t recommend this approach for most customers).
