With our Emporia EVSE (charger), there are two great features that would be even greater if they were combined:
- Operating Schedule
- Power Output Control
We use the first to prevent using it except between 11 pm and 7 am, when our “ultra low” electric rate is in effect. If we really need to use it outside these hours, the manual override is perfect.
For power control, we generally dial it down to a low level during the week since daily driving is lower and full power (48 A) will top up the vehicle in less than an hour. Setting it to a lower level means that the car may take four to five hours to top up while keeping the peak load lower.
Weekends are a different issue as vehicle usage is often higher and it may be out until 2 am (or later) so the charging window is shorter and full power is needed.
Currently, we have to manually change the power output, but it would really be nice if a schedule could be implemented for power output.
Another benefit of a power output schedule would allow the unit to still provide its minimum setting (6 A) outside our ultra low rate window so the vehicle could precondition the cabin while still plugged in.
