I built an ADU in the backyard and the electrician powered it by running electricity from a circuit breaker the main home into a panel in the ADU. The panel in the ADU does not have it’s own cutoff at that panel. In order to separate the consumption of the ADU (which I would be charging the renter) from the main home I installed a Vue2 in the ADU panel “mains” coming in from the main home panel.
Because the power coming into the ADU is controlled by the circuit breakers in the main panel, should I have installed the Vue2 at the main panel instead with a sensor on the circuit breaker feeding the ADU instead.
I am not monitoring any individual circuits, I just want to be able to see how much energy the ADU renter has consumed each month as part of the main home’s electric bill.
