Now that I have my Vue set up, I’d like to begin to dial in and optimize my energy usage. Are there any active forums where geeky folks discuss the technical side of how to do this, and then how to measure improvement using an energy monitor? As the cost of energy continues to rise, I’ve taken an interest in trying to save as much energy as possible, particularly now that I have the Vue.
A couple of things I’m thinking of:
I have a two-zone variable-speed non-communicating inverter heat pump system. I have control options for electric resistance heat, circulation fan settings, thermostat setbacks, and dampering that can all influence efficiency. Unfortunately there are many variables (like degree days, variable efficiency, etc.) that make it difficult to quantify improvement. I’d like to have some discussion on the best options to consider and the best ways to measure improvement.
I’m going to be purchasing new window treatments for the house, and the Hunter Douglas energy efficiency advertisement recently caught my eye. Honestly, I had never thought of the benefits of window treatments as an insulating factor before, and I’d like to get a better understanding of what window treatments would be ideal. I’m confident that what I have currently was not purchased with any consideration for energy efficiency.
