Hello, I added a battery to Vue to keep it from rebooting and losing wifi. We get many thunderstorms in the summer which cause grid power glitches. Most of the time Vue would reboot and reconnect but last time it did not and I lost 1 day worth of logging data. I decided to add 5v battery to Vue to keep it running during power interruptions. Vue uses 5V internally (4.85v actually) and adding 4x 1.2V NiMH cells was very easy. I used a Schottky diode in series with batteries to prevent internal PSU from getting overloaded if batteries run down low in case of extended power outage. To charge the battery I used 20 ohm resistor in parallel with the diode to limit charging current to 50mA. Vue uses up t0 100mA of current in bursts so i think it should be safe to add 50mA to that load for battery recharging. Although 4.85v is too low to fully charge 4x NiMH cells so I may have to modify the feedback circuit in PSU controller to raise output voltage to 5.5V which should be safe for Vue and should allow for ~50% recharge level. Hopefully Vue Gen3 will have a built in backup battery or option to add external 5V power supply or battery.
