I just purchased the EV Charger because I wanted it to modulate based on my solar output. I don’t need the schedules because I can set up my EVs for individual schedules. I have a rate situation where it is optimal to charge from solar during the day when it is available. Otherwise I could use one of my other EVSEs to charge at off peak rates overnight.
I have started a support ticket.

I guess while you are sorting out your issue, make sure you are not using the schedules of the EV. That will influence how and when the car wants to charge, and may complicate things. I’d set the vehicle to charge immediately for now, and use the emporia scheduling if needed. Once you get the modulation working, then you can use the vehicle scheduling – if you require that function.

Yes I have tried to eliminate other variables. Thanks for the input.

- An update on my adventure with the EV Charger. It turns out it was not a bug afterall, it was simply a case of user error. I did not understand correctly that I needed to put the EV Charger in PAUSED mode to get it to use available solar. Thanks to the support staff for their patience.
When I think about it, that makes sense since that would be how to override the scheduled mode. I could not change the title but it was not a bug.

Thank you for this post. I contacted Emporia CS and the person I was “chatting” with had no clue on how to fix this or even how it’s supposed to work. First time I’ve had a less than positive experience with their support team. Unit is working as advertised now.

Hello @BillG49,
I apologize for the poor experience with our customer support team, this has already been addressed. I also see we responded to your ticket last night with an explanation of what was going on related to the excess solar not working.
For solar optimization/excess solar to run correctly, the Emporia EVSE charger MUST be in a paused state prior to plugging into the car (see below). We are making this functionality more intuitive so it is clear to the user that if the charger is in a ready state(blue) and plugged into the car with excess solar activated, the function will be ‘overridden’ and the car will charge at the full rate.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do let us know and we will take care of it at once.
Marty
