I have a 53 array solar build being installed in a couple of weeks. I have the build out diagram from the solar company but am not quite sure how to read the panel connection. They are installing a “sub panel” because of the number of panels.

Can someone smarter then me take a look and see if I will need a separate vue to see the solar output, or if I can use the method of connecting to leads in my main panel to the VUE system and get the data that way. The diagram may not have enough data on it to tell, or I just am not skilled enough to read it. Waiting to hear back from the solar company as well.solar build out document

It looks like you have a 200 amp solar branch circuit going to your main panel, that would be too big to monitor with a single 50 amp Emporia CT.  I think he would need to connect each branch of the sub panel on a separate
Emporia CT circuit meter, and if your sub panel, it’s not too far, you may be able to also connect certain loads and your main feeders on the same Emporia.

Shouldn’t be too involved to monitor this system. Main thing to be aware of is that the Gen 2 can only monitor AC lines (no direct current), so will need to be on the AC side of your solar inverter. The other important part is that you’ll want to make sure your 200A CT’s are installed above the line-tapped solar into your mains in the main panel. One other thing to note, is that if you’re trying to monitor any circuits physically distant from the Gen 2 device (more than 20 feet), then you’d probably need another Gen 2 in that location since extending sensors has that 20′ limitation.

Once you’re setup and running, feel free to reach out to Customer Support to double check that things are setup correctly and monitoring your usage accurately.
