I have an 8kW generator.  I bought a couple of extra CTs and put them on the feed wires from the generator.   When I’m running on generator I swap the Main A/B plugs from the utility and plug the generator CTs into the A/B sockets.

I tested this today.  In the first picture below, I’m running on generator, looking at “Main”, and I test my two garage door openers.  One is a 2003 model, one is a 2024 model.   The app does a great job showing me what’s going on.   The new opener uses about 500W to open and to close, and the old one uses about 1500W each way.  This matches expectations pretty well.

In the second picture, I use my microwave oven.  According to the app, my 8kW generator is producing 11kW and my 120V microwave is drawing about 68A from a normal wall socket.   My question: What is going on here?   2.72kW is about right for the baseline when I warmed my dinner.   I ended up with a warm dinner, no fire, and no magic.   The oven probably uses about 1200W.  What’s happening here in the app?

Do you think there’s a chance your 8kw generator is generating peak 11kw at that time?

Not sure if the microwave would need quite that much but maybe that is the generator responding to a surge in the load required in an unexpected way.
