I have had a Vue Utility Connect connected to my SDG&E smart meter for about 3 years now.
Yesterday I received this email from SDG&E:On December 1, 2023, technology support for your Home or Business Area Network (HAN) will be discontinued. The HAN equipment is attached to your smart meter and provides real-time energy use information within your home and business. The decision to close the program was based on a combination of low customer adoption and rapidly evolving technology.
Currently connected HAN devices may remain connected until the HAN equipment fails or your smart meter is replaced. If your HAN device fails or becomes disconnected, we will be unable to reconnect the HAN device, and no new home or business devices can be added to the network.
So, once the Vue gets disconnected (which has happened in the past), it essentially becomes a paperweight?
At that point would I have to upgrade to a Vue2?
That would be a shame, since a big selling point of the Vue Utility Connect (and smart meters) was ease of installation and monitoring.
Hopefully this situation is unique to SDG&E. -

My Emporia Vue Utility Connect worked from 12/2022 to 9/4/2024 with SDG&E’s SmartMeter. Now I don’t get any more data from their SmartMeter. I wrote to SDG&E, but they haven’t replied.
My Emporia Plug still works.
My ecobee thermostat (also connected to SDG&E HAN) shows some data, but that could be just my solar panels sending energy generation data.
