It would be great if the On/Off feature could be disabled per individual outlet. I am using several Smart Plug only to monitor specific device usage and do not want to accidentally turn them off.

First, it’s very poor ergonomics that the setting for “Confirm On/Off” is a toggle under each outlet, but it appears to apply globally to all SmartPlugs. There are certain devices that I’d like to turn on or off without having to confirm — lights for example. There are others, such as computers and refrigerators that require confirmation. Because it acts unexpectedly, I consider this a defect in the App.
As far as your suggestion, I agree completely agree. There should be a “no remote control” toggle. So, the app is a simple circuit sensor, but not a circuit controller. This feature could probably be implemented solely with an App upgrade.
Others have complained that the outlets power up in an unpredictable state. Obviously, that’s the least desirable behavior. I strongly suggest there be an option to “always power ON after power failure” and “always power OFF after power failure”. To implement this “right” a firmware upgrade would be needed to the SmartPlugs along with a bit or two stored in non-volatile memory, so the SmartPlug could handle recovery from a power failure, without communicating with the cloud. To implement “recover power state after power failure”, which would leave the device in the same state, would probably require a firmware upgrade, and would require the firmware to write a non-volatile bit after each power ON or power OFF cycle. As a software engineer, who has worked with embedded devices, I don’t think these features are difficult. Of course, Emporia Energy has limited resources. I hope they listen to their customers. As I said, I have seen others complain about the current (obnoxious) behavior.

I completely agree that there is a use case for an ‘always-on monitor-only’ situation. A prefect example is monitoring fridge and freezer (and similar) appliances where the important thing is to get timely notification that it is off. I can see home and institutional medical uses falling under this umbrella as well.
As noted, this could be an app-based implementation. It could also be a new device, basically a smart plug without the on-off capability.

realizing that this is an old thread, I have the same issue (a freezer in the garage that I monitor with a smartplug). After a recent outage, the smart plug was OFF and I did notice after over a day.
As a short term fix, I used the schedule function to turn the switch ON at every full hour (so 24 entries in the schedule for the smartplug). So my freezer will be offline max 1h after power has been restores after an outage.
I wish emporia would include the smartplugs in the notification alerts for an automated alert. I know by now, how much power my freezer draws per hour and day. It would be nice if I can set an notification alert based on a threshold, this would be able to detect if the device is off and also if somebody left the door open, which will show up in an increased power consumption.

Hi,
Thank you for this feedback. We’ve relayed it to the team.
While we don’t have custom notifications to Smart Plugs at the moment, you can setup an Offline Notification that will let you know when the device is disconnected after 10 minutes.
