Are the electronics of the Smart Plugs reliable enough for essential devices?  For example, there would be no concern for something like a microwave, dishwasher, garbage disposal, etc. since power failure wouldn’t cause a problem.  I’m wondering for things like the fridge, freezer, and sump pump where power failure would cause a problem.  How have people’s experiences been for these?

I don’t have Emporia Smart Plugs but have used about 5 other vendors. For the most part they are similar in function. One area though that you might want to investigate is what state does the device return to after a power outage. I’ve only found one manufacter who offered a user defined state for power loss. They call it ‘Power on State” and the options are ON, OFF or Last State.

This function is critical for some devices. If you have a smart plug on a refrigerator and the power goes out you definitely want the ‘state’ to be ON or even ‘Last State’.    I’m sure you can think of other devices that might need to return to previous state upon power failure.

If Emporia Smart Plugs has this feature I’d probably buy them but without this feature its  no go.

They return to their last state when power is restored.
