Hi everyone,
New to Emporia, I did some playing around and got some help and advice from Emporia but I’m thinking you can’t monitor a hybrid system through a sub panel with one Vue 2. PV generation has to be monitored in one direction only.
My main panel has a DP breaker that feeds the inverter, the inverter feeds the sub containing my critical loads. When there’s an excess of PV it is fed back through the line that the original DP breaker runs into the inverter to the DP in the main panel and out to the grid. There’s no way to monitor the direction of the main breaker in the sub panel, I’m thinking this might require two Vue’s to accomplish.
Right now what I’ve done is not put any CT’s on the inverter to main panel breaker feeding the sub or the DP feeding the inverter from the main panel, the excess PV shows up on the “balance” in green and matches my Outback monitoring software pretty well and because the EVSE senses in/out on the main panel breaker it sees when there’s an excess and the EVSE turns on.
Here’s a diagram:

Hi,
At this time, our 50A CTs are not bi-directional.

We’ve noted your feedback to the team.

Note that this request had been made for over 3 years with no actionable response, ie. there is still no feature to manage/use hybrid inverters with batteries.

Hi Emporia Support, thank you for the update.
I have tried to find a solution to monitor my hybrid system for a while and I was thinking I was doing something wrong. I couldnt imagine the Emporia Vue 2 was not able to monitor the flow of energy connected to my batteries inverter. To be honest, I am disappointed to know this 🙁
Is there any estimated time to fix this issue? It doesnt seem to be very complicated to do it.
Also, another option to monitor hybrid system…. would be possible to use one unused port 3.5mm 200A CT A/B/C to monitor hybrid system? As mentioned in the document (“18530659344407-CT-Sensors-Bi-directional-current-detection”) these ports/clamps are bi-directional.
Thanks

Wanted to provide a quick update related to the existing 50A CT limitation on bi-directional circuits – we’ve finalized development on this feature and will be released within a few weeks (mid-June). App/cloud work is already completed and we just need to line up the appropriate firmware update for all Vue devices. Deployment targeted for June 12th and will provide the ability for the 50A CT’s to track bi directional current accurately. Details on setup will be coming with the feature launch (and we’ll have the knowledge base articles updated to accompany the release).

Yes there is, I just stumbled upon it….
Support for hybrid Solar setup – Emporia Community (emporiaenergy.com)
Apparently a new firmware has been released, and a new option in the app for CT settings lets you set the solar CTs as Bidirectional.
I just did it, and will have to wait until tonight to see if the power reverses when my inverter consumes power instead of generating it.
Buit this is exciting!! I wish Emporia would have notified its users that such a critical and log awaited feature had been implemented.
Thank you anyway!!
