I know this gets into an iffy area but my panel has one side full of breakers and hardly any space. The other side has the meter and under it a panel that has a seal on it. The seal and meter seal are actually both broken from the permitted solar install, I think the utility never replaced the seal. It says “Do not break seal no fuses inside” and it looks like it has some space.

Is this like tearing off the mattress tag or a lot worse?

Hello, the seal is to prevent customers from tampering with the electricity prior to the utility meter.  We don’t have any further comments on this.

If the seal is already broken, I would say, have at it if you want. Just be mindfull that if they decide to come by and add a seal later on, you may be locked out of your device 🙂

Next best solution add a small electrical box on the side.

It depends on the area, some areas are more strict about it. I would say it’s one of those things you’re not supposed to do but could probably get away with. Just plan on not being able to access it later (connect any extra CTs you may use in the future, and make sure all the connections are tight on the vue).
