Installing the VUE in my main panel will be very tight, is it OK to install in an external plastic box? I would like to use an external plastic box with a see thru cover. The install will be in my basement right next to the main panel, with CT wires running thru conduit. I would have the external box locked to be safe from the visiting grandkids. Just wondering if plastic box is acceptable regarding the electrical code.

I don’t see why not.  I have two units for the panel and it is VERY crowded.  I have considered running the CT wires through an approved grommet out the bottom of the panel box where the Emporia boxes will be supported.

That’s the way I do it for both my Emporia Vue 2 systems.

      No room in the Panels.

Thanks guys, I will proceed with my plan to install in an external box on the wall.

Connect the two boxes using conduit, use one conduit large enough to pass the right-angle plugs through, and another one just for the Vue’s power supply cables, to avoid conduit-fill questions.

I got a 6″x6″x4″ PVC junction box and used two short 1″ conduit pieces to connect it to the load center. 1″ conduit is just big enough for the ell-shaped CT plugs to wiggle through even when you already have seven. 1.25″ would probably be easier.

I decided to route the Vue’s power wires through a separate 3/4″ conduit to avoid a possible code violation from overfilling the conduit. I think the CT cables can reasonably be called “data cables” so conduit fill isn’t a problem for them.
