notification alert for smartplugs

Hi Emporia team,

Huge fan of your products, have a Vue Gen 2, the EV Charger (love the excess solar management function) and seeveral smart plugs.

Would you please consider including the smart plugs in the notification alerts? Currently I’m not able to set an alert for my smartplugs.

My use case is a freezer in the garage, where my kids get into and leave the door open. Being able to set up an alert for my smartplug, would enable me to catch that situation earlier. On that note, an option to have a switch always ON would be also appreciated.

Hi, thanks for this feedback and for choosing Emporia!

While we don’t currently offer custom notifications for smart plugs, you can set an Offline Notification to let you know when the device is disconnected for more than 10 minutes.

To set an Emporia Offline Notification, open the Emporia app and:
Select Menu (☰) in top left corner
Select Notifications under Settings
Select Emporia Offline (at the bottom)
Toggle the slider on the right to enable the notification for your device(s)

I did have the offline notification turned on. The problem is that outages that trigger offline events might occur for less than 10min, so they won’t necessarily trigger the 10min notification. If the switch doesn’t turn ON automatically, I won’t know that it’s OFF unless I manually check that it’s ON.

You wrote that emporia “currently” doesn’t support custom notifications, so I hope that you will consider and implement it at some point 😉

Custom Notifications are in the works for Smart Plugs, but there is currently no ETA.
