My main panel supplies a standby inverter via a tandem breaker.  The output from the inverter goes to a subpanel.  While mains power is live, a transfer switch in the inverter routes power from the main panel to the subpanel.  I’ve got Vues on each panel.  Since the inverter draws a not-inconsiderable amount of power itself, I’d like to monitor its two circuits on the main panel, and I’d like to nest the subpanel’s Vue so that the power measured there is not double-counted towards my total.  But I can only nest the subpanel under a single circuit, even though the inverter has two circuits.

My goal is to be able to see the full load drawn by the inverter as well as the draw for each circuit on the subpanel, and have my grand total equal my actual usage.  For instance the two CTs on the main panel breakers for the inverter might measure 600W and 400W, while the circuits on the subpanel might draw a total of 900W, the extra 100W being consumed by the inverter.  I want this to show up as 1000W in my total usage; I don’t want to double-count the circuits on the subpanel nor leave off the inverter usage.

The only option I’ve come up with is to remove the two CTs from the main panel inverter breakers (which would move the inverter and subpanel usage to Other) then nesting the subpanel’s Vue under the main Vue.  Would that work?  Is there a better way?  TIA.

      Hi OP,

We take it you’re asking about the ability to ‘merge’ sensors/circuits and combine the usage and then nest that; we have that on the roadmap.

If you contact us via our contact page with your email pointing to this thread, we’ll be able to “mirror” your setup to make the best recommendation possible.
