September 9, 2024 at 5:29 pm in reply to: Are Vue 2 CT compatible with the new Vue v3 #11270 Report AbusescramblerMember
I agree, I suspect the CTS would work if we would cut the wires and connected them to the Vue 3, but it would be nice to have a definite answer from Emporia, and if it would work with drawbacks, what these would be….
scramblerMemberIf your vue is monitoring the grid input output, but is it not monitoring all the breakers below that, then the balance with never be good.
There is no way to account for the solar production if it is not monitored….
scramblerMemberYes there is, I just stumbled upon it….
Support for hybrid Solar setup – Emporia Community (emporiaenergy.com)
Apparently a new firmware has been released, and a new option in the app for CT settings lets you set the solar CTs as Bidirectional.
I just did it, and will have to wait until tonight to see if the power reverses when my inverter consumes power instead of generating it.
Buit this is exciting!! I wish Emporia would have notified its users that such a critical and log awaited feature had been implemented.
Thank you anyway!!

scramblerMemberWHAAATTT. I can’t believe Emporia did not notify us of this……
I am glad I came by the forum and came across this, I am going to try that out right away and will report back.
As I tried activating the option, it told me my device needed a firmware update, and it is doing it now.
TWO remarks.
Thank you for finally doing this !!!, but Emporia, please send an email to your users informing them of this new critical feature for people with hybrid solar install
How come my Vue 2 did not upgrade its firmware automatically before ?
Excited….
September 9, 2024 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Installing 16 CTs and Ignoring My Existing Solar Breaker #11264 Report AbusescramblerMemberIf you do not have CTs on ALL the breaker in the panel, the balance will never be right as the grid CT see the true grid import / export, but all the various consumption generation are not being monitored.
You can still make the total of all the CTs that are monitoring the house to find out your home consumption, but you need to do that manually in excel.

scramblerMemberThere is indeed a precise procedure to follow when setting up CT for solar.
If you don’t remember reading / following it, then you may want to go back to the installation manual. each step is important.

September 9, 2024 at 4:35 pm in reply to: My “lights” circuit stopped monitoring (all others OK)? #11260 Report AbusescramblerMemberThe CT may have died, it happened to me once.
The easiest way to know if that is the case, is to swap this CT with another one by unplugging it and another and plugging them back in each other’s place.
If the problems follow the CT, then the CT is dead. If it does not, then you may have a problem with that port of the device.

August 30, 2023 at 3:53 am in reply to: Current or No Current Clamp on Emporia EVSE Circuit? #9822 Report AbusescramblerMemberHere is a thread with an emporia support person (jim@emporia) confirming you absolutely can pass two wires in a single cllamp, if they are on the same phase and do not exceed the amp rating
from his answer:
” If they are all on the same phase, then you shouldn’t have an issue, as long as you’re not exceeding 50A.”- This reply was modified 1 year, 3 months ago by scrambler.

August 30, 2023 at 3:48 am in reply to: Current or No Current Clamp on Emporia EVSE Circuit? #9820 Report AbusescramblerMemberAs far as I know Emporia never said it cant be done.
Emporiacs is just a member as far as we know, and there are many threads that discuss the fact it absolutely can be done, I believe some with the input from Emporia support.
In doubt you can contact support directly.

scramblerMemberAlthough the Vue does not record data locally, it is supposed to keep track of the consumption, and account for it when the connection comes back, so the total is correct.
But the details are lost

August 28, 2023 at 9:35 pm in reply to: Current or No Current Clamp on Emporia EVSE Circuit? #9814 Report AbusescramblerMemberI don’t believe this is correct.
You can put a clamp on several wires to measure a combined load, as long as they are on the same phase.

scramblerMemberYou can find the specs on the web site.
They also have a large version of the 50Amp clamps

scramblerMemberThanks
scramblerMemberMay I ask how the integration is done, and especially how home assistant is pulling the emporia data?
Thanks

scramblerMemberI have a spreadsheet that does that for my particular installation, but the import has to be done manually.
Also, unless it changed recently, if you want to graph minute data, you have to download that weekly, as they don’t keep it longer…
