Member@ShieldSean don’t wait for your tank to die. Get it out of there and replace it with a heat pump water tank – we use the Rheem mentioned in the top post. Our hot water energy usage (previously had what was called an ‘efficient’ tank) went from a strong #2 (around $30/mo) to an also ran among things like our fridge (now using about $7/mo). The savings are crazy. There’s a fed tax rebate and lots of power companies offer rebates as well. Our ROI time was more or less a year with the rebates. The warranty on the Rheem is 10 years. Do it. Don’t wait.

MemberJust chiming in to give my support for graphing ‘total usage’. Would be nice to see to keep track of conservation measures.

MemberI think what you’re seeing is a rounding error. I have solar as well – so see this screen often. Total usage is what your house is currently using – in your case 6.216kW. Solar is what your array is providing – 3.639kW. And Main is what the net power usage is – so if you have net metering – what is or isn’t going back to the grid – in your case you’re using 2.576kW of grid power. If the Main number goes negative then that’s what’s going back to the grid. I say rounding error as 3.639 (solar) +2.576 (grid) is 6.215 (close to your 6.216 reading).

MemberAn added bit of info – when the dryer isn’t running my balance is around .200-.300. / second. When the dryer is running but not heating the balance drops to around .030/s. when the heating element kicked in (as evidenced by an increase in energy usage) the balance energy drops into negative territory (like around -.030/s). Is this a factor of accuracy error or is using a 2.0 multiplier on this (or some other 240v circuit) not ideal?

MemberHopefully a quick easy question. Switched over from gen 1 to gen 2 so going through the sensor allocation again. Attached one sensor to one of the wires coming from a 240v breaker for my dryer. Noticed later the dryer was running but emporia wasn’t tracking the energy draw on that sensor. I then switched it to the other wire on that same breaker and all is good (using 2x multiplier). Why is that?
