Some clarification: This is how the Gen 2 works, in the future we’re certainly trying to make more flexible installation’s scenarios available. As of now, to monitor solar, please place the 200A CTs between the utility meter and your incoming solar.
emporiacsEmporia StaffHi,
If you’re having inconsistent data or if you have installations issues that can be causing inaccuracy, we would love to help you, please contact Customer Support directly.
emporiacsEmporia StaffThanks for the suggestions, we’re planning on adding them in a future firmware update.
September 13, 2023 at 10:55 pm in reply to: Powering Emporia Vue from A/C double pole circuit breaker #9862 Report AbuseemporiacsEmporia StaffThe gauge of wire for the wire harness is fine at 18AGW.
You can use a breaker larger (or smaller) than 15A to power the Gen 2. If you are going to tap into an occupied breaker larger than 15A, then the short black 14 gauge wire we supply in our accessories kit should not be used (it is only rated for 15A) and you will need to use the appropriate gauge wire for the tap. If the breaker is unoccupied then there is no need to use the wiretaps as you can install the wire directly into the breaker.
September 13, 2023 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Oven warning WRONG: trips when way less than 120 minutes #9861 Report AbuseemporiacsEmporia StaffThe oven notification is based on a default notification of 2 continuos hours of usage. If you need more fine grained control, you can certainly setup custom notifications for your circuits.

Emporia Help CenterSeptember 13, 2023 at 10:24 pm in reply to: 200A CTs won’t fit in electric panel panel #9859 Report AbuseemporiacsEmporia StaffWe think the solution will be to use extensions to install our sensors between the solar taps and the utility meter. Please contact us to chat further.
September 10, 2023 at 8:34 pm in reply to: User Interface expected behavior for display translation #9856 Report AbuseemporiacsEmporia StaffGreat feedback and will share this with the development team. We certainly understand the UI has room for improvement and are doing our best to prioritize the many features and enhancements we have planned.
emporiacsEmporia StaffThanks for the feedback and we have shared this with our app development team. We definitely agree the UI needs improvement as it relates to remaining on the viewed time in different resolutions. As for collecting the raw data yourself for further analysis and storage we don’t have a public API at this time. We understand that some people may want to log and analyze their data locally; however, our software, hardware, and business are developed around the collection and analytics of energy data in the cloud. You can try searching for “API” in our forums here to see what others have done.

September 5, 2023 at 3:40 pm in reply to: Current or No Current Clamp on Emporia EVSE Circuit? #9849 Report AbuseemporiacsEmporia StaffAs long as the wires/lines running through a singular sensor are on the same phase, and load/supply of power is traveling in the same direction (i.e. the wires aren’t passing through the sensor in different directions), then it should work fine. Remember that the sum total of current on all lines have the same amperage limitation through the sensor as if it were a singular wire.
emporiacsEmporia StaffTo hardwire the Emporia EV Charger you don’t need a neutral, you need 2 lives and a ground. The neutral can be connected, no problem, but ground is essential! You need to use 6 gauge for hardwire, 4 gauge will not fit in the terminals.
Please follow the install guide and use only #6 AWG copper, 90 degrees C
September 5, 2023 at 2:59 pm in reply to: Current or No Current Clamp on Emporia EVSE Circuit? #9847 Report AbuseemporiacsEmporia StaffThe only situation you can monitor more than one circuit wire using only one 50A CT is in a tandem breaker, because in a tandem breaker both wires are connected to the same phase of power, otherwise they would cancel each other out.
emporiacsEmporia StaffThe flexible sensors should work for this installation and they ‘snap’ open and snap close, also an external box is a good idea as this panel does look pretty full. For double breakers you can put one sensor on one leg, and in the app use a multiplier of 2 to double the measurements for this balanced load. You can place the blue and white wire together on the neutral bar.
emporiacsEmporia StaffThe Vue Gen 2 is capable of net metering solar generation. The 200A sensors that are included with the device are directional and can measure any energy that is generated in excess of your consumption – as long as the sensors are installed between your utility meter and the solar input to your system. You can check out our Solar Supplemental Guide for more details on how the device needs to be installed to monitor a solar system.
You can also use the 50A sensors that come with the Gen 2 bundle to measure the amount of energy generated by your solar system (this is not required for net metering, though). Once setup, your Vue Gen 2 will show excess net generation as green numbers and green bars on the graphs. Net consumption will display as blue numbers and bars.
