    Hi Anastrophe – I believe the message you’re seeing under “Support Center” only implies that new categories under that parent topic cannot be created outside of the three categories already present (“Hardware and Installation”, “Emporia App”, and “Report a Bug”). Once you’re into one of those categories, then you should be able to add new topics/posts as needed. Only related to the higher-level categorization of the forum itself.

    Support is open and no plans to shut down anytime in the future – always happy to help however we can.

    I would just like to throw in some personal notes about the direction that this thread has taken. I think everybody here raises valid points. As an advocate for open source software myself (who regularly contributes to OS projects), I would love nothing more than to have a DIY/hackable device to work with my local data. I also understand the business perspective of managing it from the cloud. As some have pointed out, our goal is to build an easy-to-use quality energy monitoring solution at the lowest possible price point. The majority of our user base has no concern to monitor their device information locally (even if they had the technical experience to do so), but we also have the veteran users who need to track individual watts. Its difficult to find a good balance between keeping the ecosystem simple to use while providing the vast amount of functionality that could be possible. We also have to juggle development resources between hardware, firmware and software priorities. Our company is small, employee run and financed, and we’re in the process of launching our two largest hardware products to date. A lot is happening on our end, and we’re just hoping to provide a decent quality product with a quality customer experience. It’s unfortunate that we can’t live up to each users expectations for how our product should behave, but that is the world we live in.

    If possible, I’d like to keep this thread open and focused on how to use the existing capabilities (official or un-official) to access your data.

    I’d also like to point out that while the Emporia team might not be very vocal on these forums, we certainly read every post and many of our employee’s read the forums on a regular basis. We like to keep this space for customers to interact with one another and we feel like if Emporia help is needed, then we’d encourage you to reach out to the support team directly.

    (I’d also like to clarify that we’re not selling anybody’s data, all of our revenue is driven directly by the purchase of our devices. Just a heads up.)

    Hey @aiannone,

    This is a common feature request for the Emporia platform. As you noted, we don’t have voltage available as a measurement at the moment but we’ll be adding it in the future. I don’t have a timeline of when that might be available, but we’re in the process of migrating some of the calculations into the cloud (off app), and once that happens that’ll open more doors for showing these values in the app.

    Good news! We’ll certainly have the first piece of this functionality available soon. Combining (or “merging”) circuits will be added to the app shortly. The graphing aspect of this feature will be coming later as well.

    We’ve definitely received a lot of feedback for this kind of feature, so we’ll be adding it in the future at some point but I don’t have any timeline available at the moment.

    For reference, here is how our dates are calculated and displayed (start to end):

    “Day” is from 12:00am – 11:59pm

    “Wk” is from Monday-Sun  (Week)

    “Mo” is from 1st to end of month(Month) and Yr(Year)

    This is a bug in our app at the moment. The developers are aware and working on a fix now. We’re hoping it will be included in an upcoming app release, but don’t have a definitive date for when that fix will be deployed.

    @wz2b, Here is an outline of the devices’ behavior when it looses connection to the network:

    The device can buffer up to ~15mins worth of measurement data. If it detects an outage or can’t send data it will continue to keep track of those measurements and upload it all when that connection is available again. If the outage is over 15 mins, then it will still keep track of the total usage and average it over the time period of the outage (or when it lost connection).

    Sorry for the missing data, this is a result from our database maintenance yesterday. Migrating the minutes data turned out to be causing a lot of performance issues for the rest of the application’s functionality including the onboarding of new devices. Since the minutes data is temporary, we won’t be migrating the remaining historical minutes data over to the new database setup. All of the new minutes data is being saved correctly, but we will be missing a few days of historical minutes data as an unintended consequence of the database work. Our apologies from the team.

    We do have a bug in the app (currently) which will not show Amps correctly on systems with different voltages from ~120. The fix for this issue is in the works and should be deployed soon in an application update. This is the last calculation we have with the voltage preset, the rest will be dynamically reading voltage from measurements instead of an assumed voltage.

    Hey @tsuckow,

    We’ve had a few customers (across different utility providers) that have had the smart meter stop sending data to the Utility Connect device. From our end, we can double check that your device is connected to the Emporia cloud, but if the smart meter stops sending data there isn’t much else we can do. We try to work closely with the providers that do have smart meters, but their interaction with us varies depending on the utility. Reach out to our support team if you’d like to double check that your device is connected correctly, but outside of that there is limited options for us to resolve these kinds of issues.
