@Bmedfly and @sourceholder, the Vue that’s currently on the market is not capable of measuring voltage accurately due to hardware limitations. We are developing a new version of the Vue with many improvements, including voltage measurement for each phase. I’ll pass your battery suggestion on to the product team.

Jim @EmporiaEmporia StaffWelcome to the community, @hanksterr7 and thanks for your purchase! Yes, you understand the multiplier completely. It won’t be 100% accurate, because the two sides of a 240V appliance often aren’t exactly the same, but it should give you a pretty clear idea of how much energy it’s using. As far as how many Vue’s you need, it sounds like you’re counting your circuits correctly, but which of those you decide to monitor is entirely up to you. Like you say, you can choose not to monitor two circuits that are less important to you. We don’t recommend moving the clamps around, as it will impact the cumulative counts for your usage – month, year and lifetime counts will be off. Feel free to reach out to us on chat or phone to discuss further.

January 13, 2020 at 8:03 pm in reply to: Is Energy Usage Data Stored in Transmitter when WiFi is Down? #5868 Report AbuseJim @EmporiaEmporia StaffHey @SteveH. Good question.
The short answer is: the Vue collects some data when it’s down and sends it when it WiFi is back up.
The long answer is: The Vue has minimal local storage so it can only capture granular data for about a minute or so without an internet connection; however, the Vue also has a cumulative counter that will always keep a running total of the energy used on each sensor as long as the Vue has power. When your internet returns and the Vue gets access to our servers through your Wifi again, the app takes the cumulative values before and after the outage and averages them over the time of the outage. So, if you look at one of those specific hours or minutes, they probably won’t be accurate. They’ll look a little strange because they’ll all have the exact same value. However, your cumulative counts should be correct.

Jim @EmporiaEmporia StaffHey Mike @gizmo-bowen, thanks for all your suggestions! I’ll try to address a few of them.
Hardware- Stickers are a great idea. We’ll forward to the product team. I’ll say this here and it will apply to several of the items below. Emporia’s goal is to make energy monitoring products more available to all, and to provide the most value at the lowest price possible. Many of the hardware decisions we make have to do with keeping our entry level price-point under $50. That being said, we want the customer experience to be as good as we can make it at that price and if we can include some your suggestions in the future and still meet our price, we’ll sure try to include them.
- You’re the first to ask for foam tape, but we’ll forward to the team.
- This originally had to do with cost and where we got the enclosure manufactured, in the future all ports will be labeled.
- Unfortunately, the manual you have is outdated, we’ve tried to get that version out of circulation, but a few are still out in the wild.
- Good feedback, we’ll look to add a more obvious solution in the future.
- Agreed, safety is paramount. We’ll look into yours and other solutions.
Software
Thanks for the feedback here. We’ve heard similar feedback from several customers and we’re working hard on a big overhaul of that app, with special attention going to the shortcomings on the graph page plus another new page that will help users get a quick view at all of their circuits at once. We can’t speak to the timing on the release of these new features yet, but we’ll obviously keep you all posted.P.S.: The portal is on our list too. 😊
Jim @EmporiaEmporia StaffThis is totally the right forum, Mike @gizmo-bowen. Looks like your google photo may not have public access permission. But we definitely encourage everyone to err on the side of caution when dealing with their electrical panel. We’re glad you’re thinking about safety. We’re also excited to hear what you learn from your setup and what we can do to make your experience better. Thanks for sharing!
Jim @EmporiaEmporia StaffWelcome to the community, Mike @gizmo-bowen ! Sounds like you’re well on your way to optimizing your energy usage. We look forward to hearing what other issues you find.

Jim @EmporiaEmporia StaffWelcome to the community, Chris @cwajciec! So awesome to hear you found your vampire load so quickly. Thanks for your suggestions. FYI: It makes it a lot easier for us to track these if you post them in Community > Product Feedback. Thanks again!
Jim @EmporiaEmporia StaffThanks @Cooper2072!
January 6, 2020 at 10:14 pm in reply to: Huge spike in Watts (generated) causing incorrect aggregate data #5838 Report AbuseJim @EmporiaEmporia StaffHello @cwajciec! This bug occurs when the Vue reboots, which it will usually do if it can’t connect to a WiFi network for more than 5 minutes. While you can reset the data yourself in the app, you can just send a request to support@emporiaenergy.com and we’ll reset your data whenever you like. I’d ask that you allow us to deploy the fix and ensure its stability first. Sorry again for any inconvenience.
January 6, 2020 at 9:27 pm in reply to: Huge spike in Watts (generated) causing incorrect aggregate data #5836 Report AbuseJim @EmporiaEmporia StaffHello @cwajciec! We became aware of this issue on 1/3/20. It is an issue with the firmware writing an incorrect cumulative value, which causes the generation spike. We’ve identified the cause of the glitch and hopefully we’ll have it fixed today – January 6th, with an over-the-air firmware push. Once the cause is fixed, we’ll look into options for addressing the historical data. Our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.
Jim @EmporiaEmporia StaffAwesome! @ecofriendlycheapass.com Thanks for sharing.
