Hello @OrrinC you sure can install the Gen 2 Vue without the main sensors installed. You can also use the Vue Utility Connect to measure the total home power.

Emporia SupportEmporia Staff@john polasek thanks for reaching out to us regarding this issue you are having with your new satellite provider and the Gen 2 maintaining an internet connection. The outside IP address changing shouldn’t matter. How routinely do they switch your external IP? Our device should reconnect automatically.
Emporia SupportEmporia Staffhello @ctriz your existing historical data is not removed when you do a solar set up. Please follow the below steps to do a WiFi
Make sure you are near the device you need to reset
Open the Emporia Energy app on your smartphone or tablet
Select Menu (☰) in top left corner
Select Manage Devices
Select the device you want to make changes to
Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Reset WiFi / Solar Setup
You will not lose any of your data or your device settings during this process
Select the device you want to reset
Select Go to directly to setup
On the Safety Information page select Next
On the Solar / Generation page, select I have Solar / Generation
Turn your solar power OFF so you only have energy from your Utility
Turn ON a load (several large appliances ideally) so the device can calibrate consumption
Select Solar is off and appliance is on
Follow the prompts in the app to locate your device via Bluetooth and connect it to your WiFi network
The Gen 2 will configure your system for Solar Net Metering. Once complete, Save the Name of your Vue and the correct Timezone
Select Ok! Show me my energy
Turn your appliance(s) OFF and your solar power back ON
Your Gen 2 will now show excess generation as green (negative) numbers and bars on the graphs and load will display as blue (positive) numbers and bars on the graphsSeptember 15, 2022 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Adding CT clamp on my Solar inverter, but not wanting to be grid tied caculated #8877 Report AbuseEmporia SupportEmporia Staff@fasavard if you want you can put a emporia monitor on the inverter feed and measure it that way. If you would like to keep it separate from the existing configuration you can get a second Emporia unit just for the off grid production.
Emporia SupportEmporia Staff@Mooreinc07 I see a couple of Gen 2 Vue’s on your account. Which one is showing the usage of 80%? I also see your configured for solar on one device, so there could be a set up issue where we are not capturing all your usaged. I would recommend you reach out to our support team if you haven’t already and they can check your devices to find the issue with the low reporting.
Emporia SupportEmporia Staff@he thanks for pointing this out, I have sent this onto the Web development and our Engineers for review and validation. Really appreciate the feedback.
Emporia SupportEmporia StaffHello @MB0815 Glad you figured out the timezone. Another reason you might see the upcoming month is due to the billing date. Usage from days before the selected Billing Day will be reflected in the previous month totals (i.e. billing date is April 16th so usage from April 1st-15th will be shown as March Usage on the Graph).

July 28, 2022 at 3:29 pm in reply to: Mounting the energy monitor in the breaker box #8725 Report AbuseEmporia SupportEmporia Staff@gokou340 Good day!
Yes the Gen 2 can be mounted anywhere in the electrical panel. Many customers, including myself, have installed the device at the top of the panel where there is the most room. Using two sided tape is perfectly fine as well.

July 28, 2022 at 3:25 pm in reply to: How to wire a 230V dual-phase installation? #8724 Report AbuseEmporia SupportEmporia Staff@No4zn,
Thanks for the detail. We have a minimum phase angle separation when you are setting up for solar net metering. While we haven’t had any customers report to us that the 120 degree angle was not enough, most of these were three phase applications. We certainly would be able to manually lock in your phases, a requirement for net metering, if during your set up you were getting a error indicating ‘two voltages on the same phase’. As mentioned if you are installing two 200A sensors then the you would follow the steps for 8a/8b.
As for the RCD breakers which are the same as US AFCI(arc fault circuit interrupted) you can install using these breakers by terminating our white wire from the wire harness on the same breaker that the black wire from our wire harness is on. The black powers the Vue and therefore you need to have the neutral from out power harness matched to the same breaker so it doesn’t fault.
“If you are going to use an AFCI/RCD (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) breaker, you need to ensure that the black and white wires from the Gen 2 wire harness are both installed on the same AFCI/RCD breaker. Black needs to go to the hot/live and white to the neutral on the breaker. The red wire can be installed on another AFCI/RCD without any modification (since it is not pulling any power) and the blue wire will need to be installed on the neutral bar.”
Please feel free to contact our support team should you have any further questions.
Cheers,
Marty
July 28, 2022 at 3:09 pm in reply to: Flexible current sensors (Rogowski coils) everywhere! #8723 Report AbuseEmporia SupportEmporia StaffHello @yyzguy,
We certainly understand the challenges of these panels and I’m glad the Flexible Sensors worked for your mains. Expanding these beyond the main sensors would be expensive and require significant development time and we just don’t have the bandwidth for that today. It took us almost 2 years to bring the existing flexible sensors to market. We are looking at other possibilities such as SMART breakers that would connect via Bluetooth to our Vue device and will continue to work with your hardware team to decrease the size of our sensors whenever possible.
Thanks so much for the feedback and your business!
James
Emporia SupportEmporia StaffHello @fraldom73, sometimes this can be a false error. Low power from a specific phase can cause this error. If you reach out to our support team directly, and provide you email we can check the configuration for you and confirm you have installed the three power harnesses correctly.
Thanks!
Joe
Emporia SupportEmporia Staff@JimsEnergy we are working hard on fixing this issue. We currently have two beta firmware’s we are testing and should have this resolved very soon. This is a top priority for the development team.
Emporia Support,
Joe
